Ireland has one national stop-smoking service, the HSE's QUIT service. The QUITline is Freephone 1850 201 203, and you can also freetext QUIT to 50100 to get daily texts. A trained stop-smoking advisor can talk through a plan with you, call you back, and help with cravings. The service is free and runs all year. You can order a free Quit Kit (a printed guide, calendar and pen) posted to your home, build a quit plan online or in the HSE Health app, and get free nicotine replacement therapy (NRT) once you sign up with an advisor.

Is stop-smoking medicine or NRT free in Ireland?
Yes. To get free nicotine replacement therapy (NRT), you sign up to a stop-smoking support programme with an advisor, who helps find the right type and strength for you. Medical card holders can also have NRT and stop-smoking medicines prescribed by their GP. Treatment usually lasts 8 to 12 weeks.

When is the QUITline open and can I get a callback?
The QUITline (1850 201 203) is open Monday and Tuesday 10am to 8pm, Wednesday and Thursday 10am to 7pm, Friday 10am to 5pm, and Saturday 10am to 2pm. Outside these hours you can leave a message and an advisor will call you back when the line reopens. You can also create a quit plan in the HSE Health app and request a call.
