View detailsDenmark offers free, professional help to stop smoking, and combining counselling with medication gives the best results. The starting point recommended on this page is eKvit, a free digital quit programme that supports you online and through an app for cigarettes, snus, e-cigarettes and other nicotine. Beyond that, your own GP (egen læge) can advise you and prescribe medication, and most municipalities (kommuner) run free stop-smoking courses (rygestopforløb), individually or in groups, led by trained advisers. Pharmacies (apotek) sell nicotine-replacement products such as gum, patches and lozenges over the counter and offer practical guidance. Research cited by Sundhedsstyrelsen shows roughly 20 to 30 percent of people stay smoke-free with help, against about 4 percent without it.
